Top Five Autographs Pulled From Packs 2022
I opened quite a bit of sealed product during the course of 2022, so I wanted to do a recap of what I think my five best autograph pulls were. To be on this list, it has to be a signed card. I of course pulled cool rookie cards and numbered cards, etc. but those don't count towards the making of this list.
5 Honorable Mentions:
Juan Marichal- Any time you pull a Hall of Famer it's a bonus. I also like Topps Heritage autos.
Tony Oliva-The exact reasons as Marichal.
Fabio Cannavaro- Getting one of the all time great soccer defenders is always a plus. World Cup champ, etc.
Travon Walker-Pulling the first overall pick in the NFL draft's auto out of retail is fun.
Camilo Doval /50- High upside closer in MLB numbered /50, which puts him slightly over the other cards that just missed being mentioned.
This was quite the easy choice. This is probably my biggest pull of all time, as it as an easy four figure card. It came out of a retail box, which makes the hit even bigger. Pulled from a 2021-22 Panini Prizm Premier League soccer mega box, this is a beautiful card signed by one of soccer's biggest all time stars. The red cracked ice was a Target exclusive, and it's hard enough to hit any autograph out of a mega box, let alone a legend on top of the fact that it's red cracked ice. The red cracked ice is a super short printed card, and while there is no serial number on this one, the rumors are out there that cracked red ice autos underwent a print run of around 20. If you go on eBay or other card sellers, you won't see more than one of these listed at any time since they are so hard to find. This was just a monster hit, and I'll be lucky to ever pull anything on this level again. I may or may not have done quite the little shimmy when I flipped this card over out of the pack.
My second through fourth rankings were much harder than number one. I went with the most recent pull on this list (pulled late November), Ansu Fati because this kid plays for Barcelona, for the Spain international team, and has tremendous upside. Plus, this card is numbered/99 which gives it a good edge over card number three. This was pulled from a Topps Champions League Hobby/retail, where autographs were not guaranteed. In fact, this was the only autograph I pulled from the four boxes I bought that day combined. I did pull a bunch of numbered rookies that have hundreds of dollars in value, but this is an autograph blog.
Finding a card for fifth was hard to do, because the cards on my honorable mentions list are better players, or Hall of Famers. However, pulling an on card autograph /99 from a coveted set like Bowman is something packed with potential. Ford is one of the better prospects in baseball, and this card is eerily similar to the Julio Rodriguez that topped my 2021 best autographs pulled list. That card was also a Bowman prospect auto /99, and it's worth hundreds of dollars now due to Julio being a legitimate star in baseball. I have no idea what will happen with Ford, but the fact this autograph is Bowman chrome, and on card, and /99 makes me hope he is a start someday. So this card is fifth on my list due to the potential upside it has. It's a really nice card, the only bummer is that it's not a 1st Bowman.
