Todd Helton

I jumped on another deal similar to the Joe Mauer card I posted about  here , and purchased a couple of signed cards of a pair of borderline MLB Hall of Famers.  I purchased these directly from a guy who has thousands of signed cards that he collects both in person and through the mail, and whom I see post items quite often on a couple of the Facebook autograph groups I am a member of.  The first card I am showing here is Todd Helton, and it's on an Upper Deck rookie card to boot.

LA Kings Adds

I picked up a couple of signed Upper Deck cards of two of my favorite players in Kings' history. The first is a Jonathan Quick Artifacts card with two pieces of game used jersey included on it. This particular card is numbered 45/45.  Hockey people will know Quick has won two Stanley Cups with the La Kings, including winning the Conn Smythe as the Stanley Cup playoffs MVP in 2012.  He was the only one of the Kings' core four (Kopitar, Doughty, Brown, Quick) that I did not have an autograph of quite yet, so I was happy to spend a little more on this card than I anticipated.  Quick has made a pretty solid case as a potential Hall of Famer when he retires. The second card is a little bit of a throwback, to a multiple time all star from the late 90's early 2000's, Ziggy Palffy.  Ziggy was my favorite King during that era of team history even though by casual fan standards he is probably a bit obscure.  This card was available for under $10, so I thought what the hell and b

Tom Hanks signed book

I know I've said it a few times, and I really am not a Hollywood autograph collector despite the cool Jim Carrey piece I got done recently. With the Carrey, I just kind of stumbled into the fact he was doing a meeting for his book release which included the autograph, so I went for it.  In the case of Tom Hanks, I saw someone selling quite a few pieces of his signed book collection, so again I feel like I found this by accident.   My plan with this is going to be the same as what I did with the Carrey.  I'm going to cut the autograph out of the book and frame it along with a picture from a big movie role.  That will more than likely be a photo from what I feel is Hanks' most iconic roll...Forrest Gump.  I will post a follow up with the finished product once it is done. Thank you for reading as always.

Through the mail-Jim Palmer

I haven't had success with the three big names I was waiting on that I mentioned a couple posts ago, so I sent out a couple more requests to players I haven't sent to before.  The first return came back in six days, which I think is my personal success record.  Jim was nice enough to sign the card in a nice blue sharpie that stands out on the 83 Fleer I sent.

Joe Mauer

As mentioned, I am part of a few different autograph groups on Facebook to keep abreast of the latest signings, through the mail successes, etc.  Sometimes people will even list items they are selling off from their collection, much if it being signed cards they have accumulated over the years.  Every so often I will peruse some of these items and find a thing or two I'm willing to add to my own collection.  None of the items found this way are ever expensive.  The most recent add was Joe Mauer.   I think Mauer is likely a Hall of Famer in the future, and I always like adding guys like this.  I through it into a One Touch upon arrival and then into my card display cases.

Anze Kopitar-Upper Deck SP

We are now back to hockey, for a nice little pickup I made off of Ebay.  Hockey memorabilia is often cheap because it is just not collected at the rate of the other major sports in this country.  Since I'm a Kings fan, and since Anze is my favorite player, I wanted to add a cool looking signed card of his.

Jim Carrey Piece Update

Image
If you check a recent post  Here , you will see how a couple months ago I joined a Zoom conference in which Jim Carrey talked about a book he wrote.  As part of the package, all meeting attendees were also sent a copy of the book along with a signed book plate. The book plate ended up essentially being a signed sticker Jim had signed that was intended to be put inside the book itself. Since I didn't know how to display a signed book, I wanted to find a cool photo of Jim in an iconic role and matt it together with the signed bookplate. About ten days ago I dropped it off at the framer and today I picked it up. I am extremely happy with how this turned out. The colors really stand out with the photo I chose.
