Topps Pristine

 Lots of stuff happening over the last few weeks from a soccer card release standpoint. Now that I am back from our annual family road trip, I can catch up a bit with these posts. One new product that came out was Topps Pristine Premier League, which is a higher end set that includes three encased autographs per hobby box. I partook in a few case breaks of this stuff to some mixed reviews, including the five autographs below. 



One of the really cool things about Pristine is that you can get match worn memorabilia. In the above example, I got this autograph of West Ham player Tomas Soucek, and if you pay attention to the jersey piece and look at the back of the card, it tells you that this is a piece of his kit from the match at Old Trafford against Manchester United on May 11 2025. What makes this even cooler is the fact that Soucek scored in this game which ended up being a 2-0 West Ham win, their first win at Old Trafford in 18 years. Being able to tie this to a specific game makes the piece top notch in my opinion, much better than the standard "not affiliated" patches the vast majority of products carry now.


The two Jack Grealish hits above came from the same break in which I took Everton for $50. The green is /10 and the blue is /75. Both cards also feature mach worn jersey relics, this time from a 11/8/25 game at Hill Dickinson Stadium between Everton and Fulham. I like that in these two relic pieces, you get multiple colors. The blue /75 has two tone and the green /10 has either part of his name plate or jersey number. 

I also took Crystal Palace in a case to see if I could hit an Adam Wharton autograph, and it actually paid off. The above Wharton is /75. I think he's a very promising young player for Crystal Palace so was happy to hit on that gamble.

As I am wont to do, I also took West Ham a few times as they are a cheaper team in breaks that tend to have a decent autograph checklist. Not only did I get the aforementioned  Soucek, I also got this Jarrod Bowen auto /75. It is my fourth Bowen autograph in my collection, which isn't surprising since I always take West Ham.

Albert Pujols

 I have been wanting to add an Albert Pujols signed card to my collection for some time, to go along with the Rookie of the Year inscribed baseball he signed for me years ago at a public signing you can read about  here . I had been keeping an eye in particular on the 2021 Topps Heritage Pujols auto because it was the set where I pulled the Vlad Guerrero Jr. auto last year that looked so good. The issue I ran into was the pricing on Pujols autos are a bit prohibitive for the obvious reason that he will be a first ballot, slam dunk hall of famer.  However, I made an offer on one of them for a cost I was comfortable with, and the seller accepted it. I really, really like the look of this card. This is now the seventh auto I have from this set, and easily the biggest name. It joins the Vlad Jr, Christian Yelich, Pete Alonso, Starling Marte, Patrick Corbin, and Luis Patino I have previously acquired in different ways.

Recently I purchased five baseballs from a fellow blogger who spends more time up in Orange County and LA.  I suggest giving him a read as well, which you can here; Autographs .  I contacted him about adding a couple more MLB Hall of Famers to my collection, because as those of you who follow me know I am trying to get an entire display case full of signed MLB Hall of fame baseballs.  The first picture here is a HOF ball signed by Paul Molitor; The second Hall member I added was Frank Thomas, which he signed on a standard official Rawlings Major League Baseball; On a side note, I fully intend to attend one of the major Tristar sports collectible shows within the next year, and Frank Thomas is a guy who appears at many of them, so purchasing a ball now at a cheaper price made more sense to me then paying more to meet him at a show.  Generally, I like to get autographs in person, but lately with a busier life and an inability to add some of the guys I have been c...

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Petco Park 4/10/13

I decided to head downtown to Petco Park for the first time this new season for my first foray into my hobby of collecting autographs in quite some time.  I skipped out on Opening Day due to the fact that all the hoopla associated with the opening of any new season.  I walked to my spot during the bottom of the ninth in what turned out to be a 4-3 Dodger win. I found out from one of the guys waiting (a nice fellow who was visiting from Florida) that the Dodgers were staying in the Omni Hotel, which is actually connected to Petco Park by a bridge that visiting players often use to circumvent the autograph hounds that wait below.  This was a little disheartening at first, until I also found out that most of the dodgers actually walked out at ground level the night before.  All in all there were only about ten or so "graphers" waiting, as opposed to the rumored forty the night before, so the potential for a good get was obviously there.
