A Couple Recent Additions
For my birthday, I went to my local card store and bought a single. One thing I have noticed recently is that the prices of sealed product at this LCS are getting higher and higher but that they also seem to have fewer and fewer boxes for which to purchase. That has lead me to just finding a card or two here and there to buy instead, and I ended up getting this on card Howie Long auto numbered /75 for less than the price of a sealed blaster box. To me, that is just dumb.
Again, this is an on-card autograph of a football Hall of Famer numbered to a decently low number of 75 from a product that is considered high end. Meanwhile, a rookie auto of some very bad player that will never pan out will go for multiple times more than this card. It just will never make any sense to me from a value standpoint, but I'm definitely going to take advantage of it and add these legends to my collection when I see fit.
A good example of what I am talking about is actually the next add I am going to bring up. This Jordan Travis auto numbered /50 is a rookie autograph I pulled from Totally Certified, which is a mid end product. It is also a sticker autograph as opposed to on card. The card below is something I could sell for more than the Howie Long.
My review of the rest of the box was that there is great value in the totally Certified premium boxes, which seems to be a new theme. I believe what is happening is that Panini and Topps have realized that the hobby boxes that used to go for $100 to $150 are now going for $400 plus, and they need to find products to fill that niche of the market that the previous hobby boxes took up. This has lead to what I think is crazy value in the Phoenix, Revolution, and Totally Certified "retail" products like Premium. My Certified box had the Jorfan Travis auto, three mem cards, and ten numbered cards.
