Topps Soccer Premier League

 It's been a couple of weeks or so since I've found time to post some new additions. A new product came out last week, 2026-27 Topps Premier League Flagship. These are affordable breaks to participate in since they aren't the premium chrome stock and there is some great hit potential. I took Manchester United in one break by taking four of ten serial spots and it paid off. A serial in a break is when the breaker can't get anyone to buy the full team so they break that team down into ten spots. Each spot is randomly assigned a number 0-9 and whomever has that number gets the corresponding hit on the card itself. For example, if you have serial number 4 for Man United and then an autograph numbered 34/50 comes up, or 4/10, or 184/250 etc, that card belongs to the 4 spot. You're essentially getting a piece of the pie rather than the whole pizza at 1/10th the cost. I had 4 of the 10 pieces and got four autographs from it.





The Peter Schmeichel /25 was one I was particularly happy with because I collect legend autographs and didn't have his yet. It ended up right in my case. I'll probably end up selling the Shea Lacey /75 as well as the Mainoo /150 since Manchester United has a big fanbase and those two are popular. The fourth autograph was Diego Dalot /75.

I also ended up taking Crystal Palace in a break and hit a Jean Philippe Mateta Gold auto /50.


I partook in a Finest EPL break as well where I had eight of the twenty teams for less than $100 in a half case. I ended up with two repeat autographs in and one new one in Anthony Elanga /99. The repeats were Jacob Ramsey and Iliman Ndiaye.




Lastly, I dipped my toes into an MLS case break. I don't really follow Major League Soccer because it's kind of terrible but it's a cheap rip and I still hit four autos. I know who Josh Sargent is because he plays for the US and was in the Premier League. The other two? Not so much.

Albert Pujols

 I have been wanting to add an Albert Pujols signed card to my collection for some time, to go along with the Rookie of the Year inscribed baseball he signed for me years ago at a public signing you can read about  here . I had been keeping an eye in particular on the 2021 Topps Heritage Pujols auto because it was the set where I pulled the Vlad Guerrero Jr. auto last year that looked so good. The issue I ran into was the pricing on Pujols autos are a bit prohibitive for the obvious reason that he will be a first ballot, slam dunk hall of famer.  However, I made an offer on one of them for a cost I was comfortable with, and the seller accepted it. I really, really like the look of this card. This is now the seventh auto I have from this set, and easily the biggest name. It joins the Vlad Jr, Christian Yelich, Pete Alonso, Starling Marte, Patrick Corbin, and Luis Patino I have previously acquired in different ways.

Recently I purchased five baseballs from a fellow blogger who spends more time up in Orange County and LA.  I suggest giving him a read as well, which you can here; Autographs .  I contacted him about adding a couple more MLB Hall of Famers to my collection, because as those of you who follow me know I am trying to get an entire display case full of signed MLB Hall of fame baseballs.  The first picture here is a HOF ball signed by Paul Molitor; The second Hall member I added was Frank Thomas, which he signed on a standard official Rawlings Major League Baseball; On a side note, I fully intend to attend one of the major Tristar sports collectible shows within the next year, and Frank Thomas is a guy who appears at many of them, so purchasing a ball now at a cheaper price made more sense to me then paying more to meet him at a show.  Generally, I like to get autographs in person, but lately with a busier life and an inability to add some of the guys I have been c...

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Petco Park 4/10/13

I decided to head downtown to Petco Park for the first time this new season for my first foray into my hobby of collecting autographs in quite some time.  I skipped out on Opening Day due to the fact that all the hoopla associated with the opening of any new season.  I walked to my spot during the bottom of the ninth in what turned out to be a 4-3 Dodger win. I found out from one of the guys waiting (a nice fellow who was visiting from Florida) that the Dodgers were staying in the Omni Hotel, which is actually connected to Petco Park by a bridge that visiting players often use to circumvent the autograph hounds that wait below.  This was a little disheartening at first, until I also found out that most of the dodgers actually walked out at ground level the night before.  All in all there were only about ten or so "graphers" waiting, as opposed to the rumored forty the night before, so the potential for a good get was obviously there.
