More Fanatics Live hits! Liverpool Galore!

 This will be a Liverpool exclusive post because Topps Chrome Premier League came out last week and the set is amazing, so I've been buying some spots in breaks recently. As I'm a Liverpool supporter, most of my spots have been the Liverpool spots. Two of the autographs I hit recently are big enough to where I'm not sure even which one to start with, so I'll go with an autograph that I have never hit in any of my time collecting. The following is a Topps Chrome dual autograph 05/25 of Cody Gakpo and Dirk Kuyt. This autograph is awesome in person and to hit a dual auto in my Liverpool spot in the release day break was exciting. I actually hit four autographs in that break, three of which I'll get to later.


 Another absolute nuke I hit actually was from a couple weeks in the last Flagship break I did. Flagship was extremely good to me this year so I bought back-to-back Liverpool spots in the last one I saw run before Chrome EPL came out. I actually ended up hitting this Virgil Van Dijk auto mem card numbered 10/10. 


The next three autos were the other three autographs I hit in the first EPL Chrome break that I hit the above dual auto it. The first is a Milos Kerkez true gold auto 38/50. Kerkez has become a good player for Liverpool so I hope this auto gets cooler and cooler as we go along. hitting gold is always nice, too. 


The other two autographs were both of the same player, rookie Trent Kone-Doherty. I'd be lying if I said I knew anything about the kid other than he's on Liverpool's youth team and that it is always a positive to hit rookie autos, because you never know. One of the autos was numbered 06/75 and the other was a non-numbered base auto.


Lastly, I was in a break on What Not where they opened a couple boxes of Museum Collection. It was a random team auction and I ended up with Liverpool. I got another rookie auto, this time of Trey Nyoni numbered 32/99. Nyoni is on the current Liverpool senior squad though he doesn't get a lot of time on the pitch as of yet.

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Petco Park 4/10/13

I decided to head downtown to Petco Park for the first time this new season for my first foray into my hobby of collecting autographs in quite some time.  I skipped out on Opening Day due to the fact that all the hoopla associated with the opening of any new season.  I walked to my spot during the bottom of the ninth in what turned out to be a 4-3 Dodger win. I found out from one of the guys waiting (a nice fellow who was visiting from Florida) that the Dodgers were staying in the Omni Hotel, which is actually connected to Petco Park by a bridge that visiting players often use to circumvent the autograph hounds that wait below.  This was a little disheartening at first, until I also found out that most of the dodgers actually walked out at ground level the night before.  All in all there were only about ten or so "graphers" waiting, as opposed to the rumored forty the night before, so the potential for a good get was obviously there. eBay adds

 I've recently made a couple purchases from eBay of NFL Hall of Famers, including one my favorite players of all time, LaDainian Tomlinson. I went with the National Treasures on card auto for Tomlinson, and it's a good looking card numbered 14/49. This is the third Tomlinson item I have obtained, the first being a football he signed during his rookie year and the second being a jersey at a signing I attended 20 years ago. The other eBay item that recently was delivered was newly inducted former offensive lineman Joe Thomas of Cleveland Browns fame. As you can see, this card is numbered /50. Offensive lineman have almost no value to people that sell, so I was able to add this card in particular for real cheap. Any time I can get a cheap Hall of Famer, I'm in, especially an all time great player.

Al Kaline-Through the Mail

As mentioned on a few of my previous threads, I have recently become interested in the idea of obtaining autographs through the mail.  There is a quite a bit of research involved in deciding which former athletes to send my items to, as I don't want to be spending money or using unsigned items on guys I have little to no chance of receiving anything from.  So far, this has paid off because up until this point I was 4/4 by sending things to Dirk Nowitzki, Ryne Sandberg, Wade Boggs, and Bobby Doerr.  You can read about all of those ventures and what I got signed by looking back on this blog.  Back on the 17th of January, I decided to mail an 8x10 photo to former Major Leaguer and Hall of Famer Al Kaline.  I chose a photo rather than my preferred choice of official baseball since I read on forums that Mr. Kaline won't sign baseballs through the mail.  As such, I found a photo I thought was cool, and sent it to the proper address using the correct channels....
